Introduction: What is Normal for the Spider and Why Is It Wrong for the Fly?
I have never felt normal, from the time my mother told me the doctor had sliced out my marvels I have come to understand there was something wrong with me. The marvels I would later learn are what made a normal person have relatively normal dreams. My dreams were of spiders and bugs which I felt would warp my mind and make me into a monster before my time. These dreams were so real that when I was asked to do something my mother thought only a monster could do, I assumed she was mistaken and responded accordingly. As chameleons go, my mother seemed immune: for nearly five years she endured every odd thing I did, including the day time walk through windows and leaping from one end of the house to the other, until one day it all became too much. During an especially peculiar escapade she found me in the middle of a spider web I had constructed that entrapped my bounding body and hung me up to dry. She could not believe what she saw. The look on her face was enough to make any sane person break the laws of nature and go insane, but I was not sane so I did what most would do in such a situation. I laughed. That was the last straw and it sent her over the edge. She slapped me until I regained composure, then I quietly said “The only thing wrong with me mother is that I am too normal for you”.
The True Nature of What Normal Means and How It Affects Humans
A spider can spin a web and wait for its prey to walk on to it and when it does the spider is there waiting. The fly may be confused at first, but then understand it’s not normal for a web to be in the middle of the air so he flies around and crashes into the web instead of flying directly through it. I feel like a fly in the situation of life, I am confused because things do not make sense to me and crashes into the situations in life rather than dealing with them. It is not normal for me to be delayed or derailed by something when I can’t even see the warning signs, but that is what happens so I deal with them.
I may have more to say on this, but right now I need to meditate on this point and not just brush it off as a typical misunderstanding. If life is really like a spider web then we need to learn to get out of the way while still being there if needed.
Thank you for reading and sharing my blog with others.
All the best,

Human Social Norms
I have been trying to understand what is normal for a long time and it is only recently I have come up with an answer, Normality means conforming to the social rules that are accepted in a group. It would be like me paying for a lunch in which the only food is sandwiches and then asking you if the sandwich is normal, in which case it would be rude to tell me it was wrong, but consider how bizarre it would be to pay with food that is not sweet. A spider sticks its head into a web and waits for you to walk into it. It doesn’t just set the trap and let you walk into it, it wants to watch your reaction and be able to hunt you more efficiently.
Why Do People Follow Social Norms ?
There are two reasons why people follow social norms; the first is to avoid being banished from the group. I have witnessed this first hand and it is a painful process to go through, there are several people who have gone through that and it has changed them dramatically. The second reason people follow social norms is to become accepted by the group, this again is painful but is often all too apparent to the see.

What Are Some Examples of Human Social Norms that are Disrupting Human Progress?
There are several social norms that are affecting human progress, the one I have dealt with directly is the norm of having a body and life style that is what one is born with. This may seem like an innocent norm but it can be very destructive if not treated. A person born with their legs deformed is not normal and sticks out in the school, at best he will be an outcast, but most likely he would be bullied. This makes for a very difficult time for a child, who has already much to deal with as it is. Also it can have side effects of depression, isolation and change in behavior that can be very dangerous. Some people can go to extreme lengths to change their body and life style, but this is not the norm. I have dealt with a large amount of people with different bodies, most who were extremely depressed from a young age due to the norm of treating physical differences as abnormal.
