Introduction: What is the World Destroyed By?

The world is not destroyed by those who do evil, but rather the lack of good. It is our responsibility to be an agent for goodness. We can control what we do, how we act and how we react. Don’t be a bystander in the face of injustice or inactivity at all costs. Do not let your guard down against evil because it will only open up bigger opportunities for it to thrive. If you want to change something, make a change. All it takes is one small, good act to start an avalanche of good.

Doing Evil Doesn’t Always Mean Doing Harm

Not all that do evil, do it knowingly. Some can deceive themselves into thinking they are doing good. Have you not seen someone who claims to be a good person act in a less than good way? This person may even be convinced that they are a good person, because they have convinced themselves it is what’s best.
Sins of commission are often masked by sins of omission. As mentioned earlier, many evil people justify their sins by letting innocent people suffer. They believe this is the best thing for everyone else and that there is nothing they can do about it, because the innocent will suffer anyway.
It is easy to imagine a person who lets harm happen to others by not doing their job properly, or not doing their job at all. This is a sin because a person is allowed to do their job and where needed.
It’s harder to imagine a person who let harm happen to others by doing their job well, or doing it all. This is a sin because doing one’s job well means allowing others to benefit from it.
If the person in question did their job well, they could help them and many others appreciate this. The person doing their job well could be a hero, or just someone who is good at what they do.

Change Your Perspective on “Bad”

Don’t judge someone as bad because they do things you don’t agree with. So what if they don’t dance like you, talk like you or act like you? A good person is a standard that exists outside of the normal boundaries of society. Bad people are not necessarily the opposite of good, but rather lack the goodness that will help maintain what’s good.
If you’re a Christian, think of Jesus. He was someone who always upheld goodness, but he also broke religious rules left and right. He broke the Sabbath laws by healing people on the Sabbath, which would have been seen as breaking the law. “Then he said to the man with the withered hand, ‘Come and stand here by me.’ And he stood there.” (Mark 3:2) Also, he was rude and uneducated, using the words “Talitha cum” (which means “Little girl get up” in Aramaic) to a woman who was dead. What about his remark about the child being out of a bottle? “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open countryside, and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?” (Matthew 18:12) Or the fact that he didn’t learn from his commandments and teach people to love each other, so that they would be kind to others?

Take Responsibility for Your Actions and Stop Looking to Blame Others

We are our own god given answer to life. If you can take responsibility for what you do, and change the way you do things, then good will come of it and be directed toward keeping the world from being destroyed. If you can look in the mirror and say, “I am bad, but I will change and become good”, then you will become a beacon of light on an otherwise dark path. If you can stand up and say, “I am good and I must do good things” then that is the best gift a person can give to the world.
If you can accept what happens to you as your own doing, then that is the level of spirituality that is required to keep evil at bay. Learn from your mistakes and change. If you are unhappy with your life, change it. Don’t blame others for it being bad. They do not deserve your anger. It is entirely your decision to make things better or worse, not theirs. Take responsibility for your actions and stop looking to blame others.
