Introduction: What is Prayer and Why do People Pray?

Prayer is the act of communicating with, or asking for help from, a deity. Prayer can be seen as an approach to religion that focuses personal and direct religious experience and relationship. Prayer is an act that is central to all of the world religions. The prayerful person seeks to align themselves with a force greater than themselves. They see prayer as the symbolic language that allows them access to God, and open themselves up to the divine.
“Prayer is the most direct expression of the relationship between a person and deity.” (Wikipedia)
Most religions have an elaborate set of “formal prayer” that are used to pray. In these traditions, prayer often includes elements such as:
To address God, he/she is using “the third person”. (i.e. “We pray to…”) to speak on behalf of believers.
To speak to others, he/she is using “the first person”. (i.e. “I pray for…”, “We are praying for…”)
From the moment an individual finds themselves open to something bigger than themselves, and with enough faith to believe that something greater than themselves can be accessed through prayer, there is a relationship between them and a deity. Prayer is simply that language that allows humans to access this power and belief in it.

The Scientific Benefits of Prayer

One of the most popular explanations for a benefit to prayer is that it has a placebo effect on the person praying. In other words, people who pray will feel better because it gives them something to hope for and believe in. This is supposed to be more effective in some than others. Private prayer, of course, is any spiritual practice undertaken in a personal prayer room. It is more common to go to a church, temple or mosque to worship. Worshipping in a group, especially with other like-minded individuals, is supposed to provide a different level of comfort for the worshipper.

I have experienced myself that if you pray for others, God will always hear the prayers and will heal by answering the prayers of the people who are praying for someone else. I had never heard about this before then when I studied in college. This is an interesting fact that we can apply in our daily lives.
I am not saying that we should pray for others all the time and neglect ourselves, but after all, we are human and need to be cared for. When you pray for someone, the person you ask God to heal will definitely heal. You might even see amazing transformations in the lives of people who are connected to you through prayer.
In your prayers, do not seek to draw any conclusion or come up with a plan in advance. Only pray for what you can understand and better relate to yourself. You can then let God work in your life and in the lives of those you pray for.

Prayer for a Specific Person or Purpose that Helps You in Times of Trouble

When prayer is used for a purpose, it is usually in an effort to help someone else out. Therefore, when you pray for someone specific, that person may have the ability to listen and may be able to help you when you are in need. This is especially useful when you are in a time of trouble and you feel helpless, which can cause many terrible thoughts to come into your mind. By praying for that specific person and trying to understand why they are in pain, perhaps you will be able to think of another way to help them.

Conclusion : The Power of Faith and Prayer will Unlock the Doors in your Life

The final thing to remember about prayer is that you have to really believe that it’s going to work in order for it to actually happen. You need faith in yourself and your ability to communicate with the divine, whether through prayer or some other method. In fact, one of the most important things to remember when praying is that if you are not able beyond yourself, then your prayers will be lack luster. So with that said, if you want to unlock the doors in your life, simply use the power of faith and prayer.
As we come to the end of our discussion, I want to leave you with a final thought. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have your life together, and I’m not asking you to feel like there is something wrong with you or that your failures are too great for God to overlook; because that is not true! God’s mercy covers all sins, and his grace reaches out more than we could ever imagine. All that you need to do is believe that. And with faith, no matter what the situation might be, God will help you through it!
