Introduction: The Sparks is a story about how two friends, Calla and Ryke meet with intentions to just to have fun, but the sparks fly
She felt the same sense of relief sweep over her as she realized that he was just as taken aback by their surroundings as she was. It meant that his mask hadn’t slipped and he wasn’t going to attack. The sun was setting and the dense foliage of the jungle was playing with their shadows as they made their way through the forest. Calla felt her pulse quicken as she remembered why they were here. They were looking for mysterious and rare plants that were used in her mother’s healing salves. They could either find them or get lost in the jungle forever. She didn’t want that to happen so she stuck close, resisting the urge to hold onto Ryke’s hand. They couldn’t afford to get distracted and they definitely could not let their guard down with each other around.
After a few minutes of searching, Ryke’s eyes widened as he turned to Calla and yanked her by the hand. She couldn’t help but giggle at his antics as he pulled her deeper into the dark jungle. “We’re here.” He whispered.
Setting the Scene for the Sparks
She led him through the dense trees, keeping a brisk pace. She didn’t want anyone to hear them and she kept wondering whether this was such a good idea after all. Calla had been drawn to Ryke since the moment she laid eyes on him, but here she was, willingly walking into a vampire territory. She suddenly remembered why Ryke had to come with her. She needed to set the scene for him to see and once he did, he’d be able to get it out of his system.
It had been two weeks since she’d seen him and the entire time, she had felt completely lost. The spark that she’d felt when they were together was overwhelming. She couldn’t stand it any longer. He was the only one who could help her find out what it was about her that made her feel this way about him. She was desperate to know what he was driving at and why he had suddenly become interested in her.
She now knew that he was not just a vampire but an empath. Calla was certain that he was a powerful empath, the reason why he could sense her emotions so easily. She suspected that the reason why she had fallen so hard for him was because he saw the good in her. He saw everything good about her and she always wondered whether it really existed or not.
Meet Calla & Ryke – The main Characters in The Sparks
Calla was a little human who ran with the big vampires. She was a good girl who’d been left at the doorstep of an orphanage when she was just a child. She had no knowledge of her parents or her family and by the time, she left the orphanage, all the records were wiped clean. Her only possession was her name – Calla Skye. She was a beautiful girl who caught the eye of the vampire prince, Ryke.
“Hey,” the young man greeted her in a seductive tone. “What’s your name?”
Calla stared at the young man who was talking to her. He looked like a boy but he had been there for four years already. She knew all the boys who’d been there for a long time. But this guy, she had never seen him before. She allowed herself to drink him in like he was wine – scenting him, tasting him and finally swallowing him down in her throat and savoring his essence.
In Depth Review of what happens in The Sparks & Our Thoughts as Readers
Ryke had been resting underwater when he suddenly felt the sharp sting of something in his ears. Despite the discomfort, he was able to see through the water and reach out to touch Calla. As he brushed the water from her face, he was stunned to see a beautiful girl in front of him. An instant later, Ryke was in danger of drowning when the Sylphs attacked him. He managed to touch Calla’s hand and their minds were instantly connected.
Calla gasped as she was flung back into consciousness. She had been riding her horse on a forest trail when she suddenly felt the sensation of something piercing her ears and radiating throughout her head. She reached out to touch Kyre, then suddenly found herself in the midst of a battle. She watched in horror as Ryke was stabbed repeatedly by Sylphs. He appeared to be drowning, and she couldn’t help but feel tremendous pain for him.
Conclusion & Recommendations for this Book
The sparks is a great story, but difficult to read because there was so much happening, at every point in the book. It didn’t give much time for the reader to pause, reflect or digest what was happening. However, it was an amazing read that I recommend to all those who love the paranormal romance genre. There was a lot of action, but it didn’t make the book boring. It had a predictable plot, but it still kept you guessing if they were going to get out of their predicaments. I would give this book four stars because the majority of the book was good. I think this book was well written and had great detail, but it was too much to read so fast. The reader had to be fully committed, just like the main characters in the story, or else they wouldn’t make it through the book very well. I would recommend this book for older teens and adults that don’t mind thinking outside of their box and not just reading for enjoyment, but for knowledge as well.
