A Brief History of the Ancient Indian Practice, How to Practice it Today, and More on How it Helps with Emotional Healing

The word voodoo was derived from the West African term “Vodun”, which means “spirit”, “deity” or “ancestor”. Voodoo is one of the most interesting and complex religions in the world and it has a long history. Voodoo goes back to ancient Egypt where Pharaohs used magic to heal their citizens. Another origin of this magical culture is Central Africa where it originated and worked as wonderful healer. The spread of Voodoo has been related to the slave trade and the horrors of slavery. Slaves could use voodoo in order to protect their freedom and themselves from oppression. In modern times, the ancestors of African slaves used Voodoo to escape from bondage and oppression created by European Colonial Powers, who were not inclined to treat slaves kindly or fairly (1). Today voodoo is found in Haiti, Cuba and the United States.
