What Not to Do When You Dance
The ballerina’s name was never revealed, she was just called ballerina. Perhaps it is because her role in the dance is to stand there and wait for Harrison to come and dance with her. But the ballerina isn’t just waiting around, it seems like she’s thinking too. With her chin resting on her knee and her hands folded on her lap, she seems to be pondering the steps he’s been making:
While not apparent in the movie, there’s much more to learn from this dance than what was presented in the movie. If we analyze it closely, one can come up with a nice analysis of how this dance could go.
1) First, notice how he’s staring at where she is sitting for no apparent reason and looks down at his feet. He seems to be sizing up his own position and where he can go. This indicates that he doesn’t want to make any sudden moves, but wants it to be slow and even.
Dance With Me
Harrison had never danced before, but he was a fast learner. He’d danced in his sleep before and he knew he could dance if he tried. The ballerina told him how and when to do it, she said “Dance with me”. She even knew how to dance the waltz, so they waltzed around the library while they waited for someone else to join them.
“It was a pleasure to meet you,” she said. “I’m sure Harrison will be back.”
“Do you think so?” said Harrison. He was really glad that he’d met her and hoped that he’d see her again too.
Bruno came in from the hall just then, “I want to say something,” he said to his mother, “I want to say that I think it’s awesome what you’re doing with the library,” he said. “I wasn’t sure at first, but now I’m sure that together we can make the library even better than it is!”
“That’s great!” said Harrison. “You’re a really good kid and you’re a great friend.”
“I want to spend more time here,” said Bruno. “What do you want to do now?”

While Harrison and Ballerina danced, they waited for someone to join them. After a while it became clear that no one else was going to come in the library and dance with them, so Harrison asked the ballerina why he had to wait for someone else to come in before he could dance with her. She said “You can dance with me whenever and wherever you want”.
From then on, Harrison would dance with the ballerina everyday in the library. The only time they wouldn’t dance is when a storm would come and thunder and lightning would roar outside. On those days, Harrison would walk home with the ballerina at a slow pace to be safe.
When the day for his last exam arrived, Harrison was terrified because he had never been more successful in math than he was now, so there was no room to improve his grade anymore. However, Harrison had one more exam to give that day and it was an essay exam.
