Introduction: What is a Miracle?
A miracle is an event not explained by natural or scientific laws. In his book Miracles: What They Are, Why They Happen and How They Can Change Your Life, author David W. Caudill states that most people who refer to miracles do not use a standard definition of miracles. Instead, they draw from their own culture and worldview to describe what they believe are miracles. Caudill describes miracles as “supernatural” events that are “transcendent” and violate the laws of nature. Miracles are attributed to the intervention of supernatural beings.
Theologian and Christian philosopher Alvin Plantinga gives a similar definition of miracles in his book God, Freedom and Evil. He describes miracles as events that are “caused by God,” but which do not follow ordinary laws of nature. In religious contexts, he says, the claim that an event was a miracle is usually backed by some sort of testimony or spiritual confirmation. Plantinga does not believe that science can give evidence for or against miracles. He says that one’s worldview would determine whether an event would be considered miraculous.
The Miraculous and Supernatural Power of a Lassie
A miracle can occur when an object with a miraculous power lands in the right hands. When a miraculous, such as an Akuma, lands on Earth, it transforms into a different object to avoid detection. For example, Hawk Moth’s akumas transform into butterflies in order to appear harmless (Miraculous Ladybug Season 1 Episode 6). When an akuma goes unnoticed by humans or if the person doesn’t have an akuma detector bracelet, it could turn into a candle (Miraculous Ladybug Season 3 Episode 5). An akuma could also turn into a garbage can to find a new host (Miraculous Ladybug Season 1 Episode 8).
The Miracle Purse Ladybug wears is a sign of good luck from Ladybug’s past. It is revealed in “The Pharaoh’s Winter” that she was given the purse by her grandmother, who used to wear it around her neck (Miraculous Ladybug Season 3 Episode 6). The purse appears to be a normal red purse with white polka dots, but when an akuma attacks, it releases a black liquid. This black liquid emits smoke and turns into an akuma that is slightly bigger than a normal akuma.

The Reality of Life and Death in Paris
Miraculous Season 2 Episode 5 shows the futuristic reality of Paris. It is a place that allows humans to live forever, provided they can afford it. Humans are able to use food to contract and maintain immortality. The amount of food one requires depends on the person’s weight and height. A person’s weight is determined by how much food they need each day, while their height has to be supported by their weight. Miraculouses use their power for harm when humans become too greedy and selfish with their immortality. They use their powers to turn humans into immortal creatures, so they will never die (Miraculous Ladybug Season 1 Episode 13). Ladybug and Cat Noir must stop them from exploiting human greed.
In the episode, Juleka’s parents explain to her that the reason for their absence in her life is because of their busy schedules. They also tell her that they only have time for each other these days, and do not have time to see her. Juleka is upset about this, because she believes that once she becomes an adult, her parents will see more of her. Juleka’s father gives her a Miraculous, telling her that they both know that she is destined to use it. He also gives Juleka the knowledge of passing the test, because he wants her to be a good person in the future. It shows that not everyone gets a second chance at life.
Conclusion: Why You Should Never, Ever Give Up on Your Dreams
Miraculous Season 2 Episode 5 shows that having no hope in your dreams or goals can lead to the destruction of Paris. Once a person loses hope, the city crumbles and is destroyed by the superpower of a Miraculous. The superpowers of Miraculouses are used for destruction when humans give up on their own life. An example is when Ladybug gives up on finding the true identity of Hawk Moth. The episode shows that there are many miracles in this world, and you should never lose hope in finding them.
