Marc is an ordinary 6th grader who has a knack for using martial arts to solve everyday problems. He’s not a bully, he’s just someone who knows how to kick butt. With the help of his new teaching assistant, Marc learns that there are other ways to overcome bullies than beating them up.
When Marc’s best friend Kyung-jae is threatened, Marc can’t help but fight back. When he has a chance to defend his friend, he couldn’t stand by and does something he promised himself he would never do. And when it comes to saving the day, he learns that there are some bullies who aren’t so bad.
Introduction: What is the novel about and why is it worth reading?
Marc’s Mission is about a 6th grader who learns how to deal with bullies in elementary school by using his martial arts skills. He uses his fighting skills as a last resort. Marc learns that there are other ways to solve problems than fighting. He learns that friends can support him in a way that he never thought possible. Marc has several friends who meet up with him whenever he needs them. But no matter how many friends Marc has, one bully still causes fear in him. This bully is the most popular kid and is known as “the king of the playground”. The bullies terrorize Marc everyday and put his life in danger. Marc just stands there doing nothing and watching this happen to him. Marc’s mom wants him to use his martial arts skills to solve the problem before anyone gets hurt. But Marc doesn’t want to solve problems with violence so he decides to use his fighting skills only on the bully. No matter how hard he tries, Marc can’t hurt this kid who seems a lot stronger than him. The only way Marc can prove to his mom that he’s not a wimp is that he must fight back.

Review of Marc’s Mission by Readers on Goodreads with an Overview of the Plot and Characters
From Goodreads.com readers: “A really well-written book, with a lot of good advice for bullies and the bullied!” “This is a very good book about a wimpy kid who wants to take care of himself and get rid of bullying in his school. It shows how he uses his karate to kick butt in the end. I think that this book teaches kids to stand up for themselves and not get pushed around. This book is for readers ages 8-12.” On Amazon.com and Chapters.ca, Marc’s Mission has a Four Star rating out of Five Stars. “I liked this book because it showed what would happen to bullies if they didn’t stop bullying. It also showed that you should stand up for others who are bullied and do something about it. Marc is a great character because he knows how to fight, even though he is bullied himself, and does something about it.”
