What is the difference between a woman’s place in the house and the senate?

A woman’s place is in the house, but so is the senate. Nancy Malk’s “A Woman’s Place Is In The House And The Senate” was published on May 3rd 1852 and it is often associated with women and feminism in particular, however it also deals with a number of other topics. Although this piece does not explicitly deal with feminism it does seem to be very important in relation to the moderate feminists of the times. The piece is written expressing a woman’s place both in the house and senate. This is a very important point for women, as their legal status was changed during that period of history. It also shows that women were slowly being given more rights and responsibilities, but were still considered inferior to their male counterparts. This change in status is very significant throughout women’s history, because it shows that the rights and freedoms of women were increasing.

What is your personal opinion on this?

This is a great article for women and anyone who wants to educate themselves about women’s history because it is easy enough to read and there are so many things to pick up on. The main reason I chose this article is because of its title it’s very catchy. It also addresses bias in the media at that time by saying “But A Woman’s Place Is In The House And The Senate”. This shows how Nancy Malk fought against the stereotypes that were being portrayed in the media at that time.
Also because of the title, the article is easy to understand and is not bias in any way. The article was very well researched and there are things that I can relate to from that era, such as medicine. My favourite parts of this article are “In 1903 … women could be denied the vote if they were married, a widow or if they were not 30 years old; if they were not a “naturalized citizen” or had not lived in their state for at least 3 years. But A Woman’s Place Is In The House And The Senate”. This shows how women were not allowed to vote and it was a shocking thing because they had suffered so much through slavery, being denied the right to vote seemed like a slap in the face.

Has society changed enough to allow women to be able to hold positions of power outside of the home yet?

To me this is a very good article because it shows how society hasn’t changed since Nancy Malk’s time in the 1850s. This article also shows how women are still put down by even new generations of people that are younger, for example the title of the article states that “A Woman’s Place Is In The House And The Senate,” this is a good title because it shows all of the different reasons why women can’t take on these positions and in some cases society holds women back from taking on these positions. Whether it’s because women are not taught how to do something or society doesn’t allow them to take on these positions.
The main idea that I got out of this article was that women are still being held back from taking on these positions. As I stated above in the title this article states that a woman’s place is in the house and the senate and it shows how women can’t do both. This article for example talks about Nancy Malk’s time period in the 1850s and it says “A woman’s place was in the home, not in politics.” This shows me how women were treated badly back then and it still shows how women are treated today.
