This article is an introduction to Java programming. Java is a general-purpose, object-oriented programming language. It was originally designed as a “pure” object-oriented language and combined syntax from C and C++ like declaration of variables, expressions and statements; however this has changed with the latest release version 8 called Lambda Expressions in java 8. Java was developed by Sun Microsystems and released in 1995. Its designers intended it to be used as a programming language for any computer that would be connected to the Internet.
A few years later, Oracle Corporation purchased Sun Microsystems, Inc. and now owns the Java brand and trademark. Oracle has released new versions of the Java platform annually since 2006. As of 2016 , there are two active versions being developed:
Java 8 (Java 1 .8) was released in March 2014 and replaced version 1 .7. This version contains several new features, including support for lambda expressions and the ability to use functional interface methods. Bytecode version 1 .7_51 was released as a patch in June 2014.
