Introduction: Are hippies dangerous?

Hippie culture is often a trip. Many people are drawn to the free love, peace, and much more. But should you be cautious of hippies? The answer is no, you should not be cautious of hippies. That being said, the hippie culture does have some downsides that you should know about. Hippies are not dangerous as a whole—just in specific circumstances.

Hippie Safety Tips for Travelers

Hippie town laws vary and are often difficult to understand. Always be cautious of your surroundings. Hippies can come up from behind without warning, especially if you’re not wearing orange (the color of safety). Hippies are territorial and will fight for real estate, so always keep an eye out for any hippie movement in your area.
An important law to know about is “never go with a hippie to a second location.” Most of the time, the person you just met doesn’t really want to show you their artwork; they want to get you alone somewhere so they can try to sell you drugs. If you’re going to be traveling through a known hippie area, it’s best that there are at least two of you.
Hippies will never talk to anyone without a joint in their mouth. So if you see a hippie who is not smoking, keep a safe distance. If they are smoking, they are probably inviting you to join them in their private party. Always be sure that no one is following you and that there’s another exit back to the ‘outside world’ if necessary.

Top 10 Ways to Make Sure You’re Safe When Traveling With A Hippie

Forget the stereotype of hippies being mellow and happy. Hippie culture is known for its militant stance against authority. When traveling with a hippie, always be cautious about this. Do not trust them with your money or belongings such as your phone or wallet. If hippies become violent over your possessions, they may take them anyway. Be wary of accepting gifts from hippies, especially pot. They may try to drug you. Always know your way home and be familiar with the environment before you travel with a hippie. Hippies may try to lead you astray if they are up to no good. Hippie language is complex and hard to understand, so always keep an eye out for signs of trouble. Do not travel with hippies back to your home country if you notice anything suspicious about their behavior.

This site is just my grandmother, who raised me. Other relatives are interesting, too.
She was raised as a Southern Baptist in Georgia and Texas, but spent some time as a hippie in California.
Not sure what’s “ok” and what’s “not.”
My grandmother was a phenomenal cook, loved nature and animals, liked to dance, read Tarot cards thoroughly, is an experienced hiker/walker (backpacking) and just overall extremely cool. However, she’s also pretty stubborn and may have some bad habits from her upbringing, like not accepting help from others/giving up easily.
I’m in no way saying she needs to change any of those things. They’re just the things I notice about her.
If you love somebody, let them go!
