This is the third section of my book review on the inferno, after the introduction and preface. This section is about the first three cantos (1,2,3) of the inferno.
1. What Is One Reason Dante Most Likely Wrote The Inferno?
The first reason that Dante probably wrote the inferno is to punish the sinners of his time, by making them face their crimes in front of others. This could be one motive for writing this poem because he wanted to propose an idea that punishment needs to involve other people.
2. How One Can Have Rational Doubt About This Claim?
One could have rational doubt about this claim because it is not clear how these sins are scandalous in front of other people. For example, [example 3] committed his crime in private, and this was a sin against God and not necessarily against others.
