An Opportunity to Change the Course of Their Lives – A Story of Chance
The girls’ future plans have always been predictable: Liv knows she’ll follow in her mom’s footsteps and attend the University of Texas, while Maddie is determined to distance herself from the high expectations of a “perfect family.” But then a terrible accident changes everything, throwing their lives into upheaval and turning their lives upside down.
Most importantly, it places Liv and Maddie in the same foster home, where Liv is forced to make a choice she never thought she’d have to make: follow in her mother’s footsteps or finally lead an independent life.

Making a Difference with Friends by Choice!
When Liv and Maddie first get to LA, they are more focused on themselves than others. Liv tries to keep her distance from Maddie because of the pressure she feels from being part of a perfect family, while Maddie tries to create distance between them because she knows that there is something wrong with her. When a terrible accident changes their life and brings them face-to-face with the truth about themselves, Liv and Maddie eventually realize that growing up doesn’t mean growing apart; it means learning to lean on someone when you need them.
In the first season of the show, Liv and Maddie are complete opposites. As a result, they have trouble finding common ground. When they spend time together, they tend to get on each other’s nerves until they realize that they are more similar than different.
